If you’re thinking about painting the inside of your home, you’re probably wondering: how long is this going to take?
Whether it’s a single room refresh or a full-house makeover, the time it takes to complete an interior painting project depends on a few key factors. At Inspired By Design Painting, we believe in setting clear expectations from the beginning so you know exactly what’s happening—and when.
Let’s break it all down.
How Long Does Interior Painting Take?
In general, most interior painting jobs take 1 to 5 days to complete. The timeline depends on:
- Number of rooms
- Size and layout
- Wall height and ceiling features
- Prep needs (patching, sanding, cleaning)
- Paint choices and number of coats
Here’s a basic rule of thumb:
- 1–2 rooms: 1–2 days
- Main living areas (open concept): 2–3 days
- Whole-home interior (1,500–3,000 sq ft): 4–5 days
“We treat every job like a timeline matters—but we never sacrifice quality to save a few hours. It’s got to be done right, or we’re not done.”
— Brandon Miller, Owner

What You Can Do to Help Speed Things Up
Our team handles the heavy lifting—but here are a few ways to help streamline the job:
- Clear surfaces of photos, décor, or small furniture
- Unplug electronics and label cords
- Remove fragile items from walls and shelves
- Leave a clear path to each room we’ll be working in
We’ll take care of the rest—including moving and covering larger furniture.
Other Factors That May Affect Timeline
1. Color Changes
Switching from dark to light (or vice versa)? Expect more coats for even coverage.
2. Paint Type
Higher-end paints may require longer dry times between coats, but deliver better durability and cleanability.
3. Finishes and Detail Work
Accent walls, crown molding, baseboards, and window trim all require extra time and care.
